BAJA SIERRA TRAIL

Not just a trail — a movement.
Mexico's first Triple Crown thru-hiker, Zelzin Aketzalli, is about to walk 2,100 kilometres alone through the wild sierras of Baja California — mapping the country's first national long-distance trail, completely on foot. This is the first documentary of its kind in Latin America.

THE STORY
Zelzin Aketzalli didn't grow up near mountains or national parks. She grew up in a poor neighbourhood in Mexico City, working flea markets at age 11 to buy school shoes. She didn't hike to escape — she hiked to survive, to learn, to grow.
Now she's walking 2,100 kilometres alone through the wild sierras of Baja California, mapping a trail that has never existed. With every step, she's forging deep connections with rural and Indigenous communities along the route and opening up new conversations about who belongs in the outdoors.
Told through immersive vérité cinematography, the film captures the grit and grace of an elite Latina athlete navigating heat, solitude, and unknown terrain. It is the first documentary of its kind in Latin America to reframe thru-hiking as a cultural, athletic, and political act of becoming.
To do something different, you only need to start walking.

When you don't see yourself reflected in the world, you begin to feel invisible. Telling our stories is an act of survival — and of revolution.
