The Last of the
Ornithologists
The Last of the Ornithologists was shot over the course of two days with Ludwig Schlottke as he prepares for the mating season of the Kestrel birds in Berlin.
Having been volunteering his time to these majestic falcons since 1983, Ludwig is approaching the end of his work, as climbing church towers becomes harder on his 83 year old body. After all of these years, however, there is only one person in the wings to take over when he is done, and he is in his mid 50's.
The film explores Ludwig's passion for research and the birds, and what happens when he is forced to stop.
